LA CRESCENT, Minnesota (WXOW)-- The La Crescent Fire Department has a new old truck. The engine was part of the departments' fleet from 1951 until 1993, when it was sold. Recently the truck ended up at a scrap yard and the owner contacted the La Crescent Fire Chief, John Meyer, to see if they wanted it back before it was destroyed.
So the fire fighters pooled their own money and bought the truck for $1000. It still runs and even has the original tires, though the siren needs to be repaired.
"There's probably three or four of us that were on the department when that was in service. It was a great old truck. Wasn't real fast, but it was a great old truck to run ."
Firefighters are still looking for a place to house the truck, so if you have an open space or known of someone who does-- please contact the fire department.
