Bear spotted in West Salem

WEST SALEM, WI (WXOW)—A black bear has been roaming around West Salem.

A West Salem resident took the picture above of the bear and passed it along to the police department.

Two different people reported seeing the bear on Monday morning. The first at 6:15 and the second a half hour later.

The Department of Natural Resources said bears are typically shy and will usually move out of the area once they see a human.

There haven't been any sightings since.

The best thing you can do to keep bears away is remove any food sources like bird feeders, garbage cans or pet foods and never approach them.
