La Crosse, WI (NEWS RELEASE) - Reconstruction on South Avenue (State Highway 35 and U.S Highways 14/16), between 15th and 16th street, will begin on July 22nd. South Avenue is expected to be fully re-opened before Monday August, 5th.
The road work is necessary for the re-construction of underground utility structures under South Avenue.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with maximum lane widths of 11 feet, between 14th Street and 17th Street. Motorists should be cautious because of driving in the narrowed lanes, with close proximity to oncoming traffic.
Traffic will remain open, but will be shifted across lanes as necessary to facilitate construction.
Access to 16th Street will remain open. Losey Boulevard and Jackson Street/ State Road are permitted as an alternate route, but no official detour routes will be posted for local traffic.
Delays are expected to peak in the morning and afternoon.
