96-year-old stops attempted robbery

MARSHFIELD (WKOW) -- A 96-year-old woman in Marshfield proved age is no factor when it comes to protecting your property.

MARSHFIELD, Wisconsin (WXOW) - She stopped a thief in his tracks when he tried to rob her grocery store.

Margaretta Wolf has owned Wolf's Grocery Store in Marshfield for 50 years.

Monday, a masked man came in demanding cash.

"I said, 'I'm not opening up that cash register and that's it. 'I'm not opening it.' I said, 'You can have all the Tootsie Rolls you want but I am not opening that cash register," says Wolf.

The would-be robber then placed a pocketknife on the counter and flashed its 3-inch blade.

Wolf still stood her ground, saying she would call the police.

The man noticed a security camera, grabbed his knife and ran out the door.

Police are still looking for him.
