GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Packers head coach Mike McCarthy did not mince words in his opening press conference.
"We clearly understand it's about winning the world championship here in Green Bay," said McCarthy. "Our goal will never change, but I really like the approach that's come into training camp."
It all begins on Friday. The Packers coach put plenty of emphasis on injuries during Thursday's 20 minute presser. No surprise there. Green Bay was once again plagued with health problems last season.
McCarthy didn't just address the issue, however. He said he's going to try and stave off injuries in training camp. The coach reasoned that by holding 18 of 19 practices bright and early in the morning, he's taking an active approach to battle fatigue.
"We have building blocks in our program. One of them's accountability and availability. We have not hit the target on availability two of the last three years. So, it's definitely a point of emphasis. We'll show we've made some adjustments, and we're doing everything we can to address it," McCarthy said.
As for the team, they went through some physicals and physical testing on Thursday. The first practice is open to the public and begins Friday at 8:20 a.m.
