Brett Favre calls La Crescent boy

Posted:

La Crescent, Minnesota (WXOW) If you're a Packer fan, you might still be angry with Brett Favre for leaving the Pack to play with rival Minnesota but this next story may help you have a change of heart.

Favre went out of his way to brighten the day of a La Crescent boy battling cancer.  While most kids would be scolded for kicking a ball inside Obi Christenson's dad can't help but smile.  Obi has spent nearly every day of his summer vacation here.  Attached to machines and IV's at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, the 7 year old has Neuroblastoma.  Surgeons removed a cancerous tumor from his abdomen in June.  He just finished his second round of chemo.  He has 4 more to go before his stem cell transplant this Fall.

Are rare phone call Wednesday night made Obi beam from ear to ear.  Obi's Dad,  Chris wrote a letter to The Brett Favre Foundation asking the legendary quarterback to make an appearance at Obi's upcoming benefit.  A foundation spokesperson called him back and said that unfortunately Brett wasn't going to able to make it he offered to call Obi instead.

The conversation lasted about 15 minutes.  Far ve did most of the talking.

Favre's most important win might just have just taken place in a La Crosse hospital.

Obi will receive a stem cell transplant at the U of M this Fall.  If he's there the same time Brett Favre said he would like to meet Obi in person.

Family and friends are holding a benefit for him Sunday, August 4th from 2 until 8 at the American Legion in La Crescent.
