135 Years of Around the Clock Prayer

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)  The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration are celebrating 135 years of around the clock prayer.  Their history, however, goes back even further.

You can trace their beginnings to Ettenbeuren, Bavaria in 1849.  In 1864, they moved to Jefferson, Wisconsin with a goal of praying around the clock.  The Sisters moved again in 1871. This time, to La Crosse.  And on August 1, 1878, they began 24-hour prayer.

Accomplishing that goal was not easy.  It took persistence and dedication.  They've demonstrated their commitment to prayer over and over again.  One example of that commitment happened in 1923.

For details, you can watch the attached story from photographers Mark Bronson and John Schmidt and reporter Dave Solie.
