La Crescent, MINNESOTA (WXOW) A handful of area legion teams just aren't quite ready for the end of the season.
State tournaments throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota are set to begin at the end of this week and the Coulee Region will be well represented.
That includes La Crescent, who enters the Minnesota State Legion Tournament ranked number one in the state in division 2.
This will be the 7th time in the last 10 years they've made it to state.
"Always exciting any time you go back to State. This year it's even more exciting with the way things started off this spring season. Then the summer season started off great with a long winning streak. Now we're really peaking at the right time," said coach Jamie Muller.
"A lot of it is it's just more relaxed. It's legion, so it's a different kind of baseball. Defensively, we've played really good this summer. When we're hitting well and playing tough defense we're a pretty tough team," said pitcher Eric Veglahn.
La Crescent will play Hawley Friday afternoon in the first round at Bird Island.
