Dayton presses lawmakers on special session to discuss flood relief

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton says he hopes lawmakers will agree to a quick special session for after Labor Day to approve disaster assistance.

But Dayton said Tuesday he won't open the door to other initiatives that could make an emergency session unwieldy.

Dayton's administration has asked legislative leaders to help work out an agreement before he would call a session. The goal is to approve a state match for federal disaster aid stemming from June storms that caused major damage in 18 counties.

Dayton says he thinks appeals to eliminate new taxes on warehousing services and farm equipment repair should wait until the 2014 session. He says he is in favor of repealing both.
