ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) --- The affidavit for a search warrant gives more details into what happened leading up to officials digging up a site in Janesville looking for a missing girl.
On July 30th, an 82-year-old Rock County man told Rock County Sheriff's he was picking berries with his friend back in 1947 when they saw a fresh burial site.
It was located on North Wright Road and East Rotamer Road.
The man was 16 years old at the time.
The Rock County man also told police that a man on the property yelled and demanded they leave, so they ran off.
He told officers he remembered that Georgia Jean Weckler was missing from her home not too long before that.
Rock County officials confirmed with Jefferson County that Georgia Jean was a missing 8-year-old from 1947.
Canines were taken to the area and three of the four gave a positive alert to one location, while the fourth showed interest in the same area.
One of the canine handlers did add that due to the extended period of time the body could have been in the ground, it was possible the odor detected had traveled from the burial site into roots and plants in that vegetation.
The man who made the tip to officials had pointed out the area about 25 feet from the area the canines alerted to.
