Man dead after standoff with officers in Wautoma

WAUTOMA, Wis. (AP) - Officials say a man is dead after leading deputies in Waushara County on a chase and exchanging gunfire with them.

Authorities say the man was a suspect in an armed robbery at a pharmacy. When officers tried to pull him over Wednesday afternoon, he took off and they chased him through Wautoma. The suspect fled on foot after his vehicle got stuck in a construction area and exchanged gunfire with officers.

The man broke into a house and officers surrounded it. Neighbors were evacuated.

WLUK-TV reports that about midnight, authorities say the standoff was over and the man was dead. They released no additional information.
