MUKWONAGO (WKOW) -- The Mukwonago School District has decided to ignore the state's order to replace its Indian nickname and logo.
A law enacted in 2010 authorizes the state Department of Public Instruction to require a school district to change its race-based nicknames if one formal complaint is filed.
Mukwonago could be fined $1,000 a day for defying the order.
A lawyer for the district tells the AP, Mukwonago is prepared to fight any fines and is seeking a legislative, rather than legal remedy.
