LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The La Crosse Health Department is encouraging children to wear their helmet while biking by handing out coupons.
It's all part of the cities Bike Pedestrian Safety Education Campaign. The goal is to encourage kids to wear their bicycle helmets more frequently and turn it into a lifelong habit. So starting August 19th, any child who wears their helmet while biking to La Crosse County pools and libraries will receive a free McDonalds coupon.
"I hope it just really brings awareness around helmet use so it reminds kids and parents that everybody should be wearing their helmets every time they get on their bike and also encourages people to bike instead of driving everywhere they go," says Rebecca Lakowske, a health educator for the La Crosse County Health Department.
The health department will be handing out coupons Monday through Friday or while supplies last.
