LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) When you meet her, you know where she stands. And maybe, that's one quality that makes Karen Vogt an effective volunteer.
It may also be one reason Karen is the August 2013 Jefferson Award winner.
She answers questions from patients and others visiting Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. It's an opportunity to do one of the things she does best - focus on others.
When she's not volunteering at Gundersen, Karen volunteers at the YWCA's Court Appointed Special Advocates program known as CASA. She works with children going through the court system because of abuse or neglect.
If you know someone making a difference in the community through volunteering, you can nominate him or her for a Jefferson Award. Go to the main page of this website, click on the home tab at the top of the page, then click on Jefferson Awards and go to nominate someone.
If you want to learn more about Karen's work, you can watch the attached story from photographer John Schmidt and reporter Dave Solie.
