WHITEHALL, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Trempealeau's County Board has approved a county-wide moratorium on industrial, sand-related activities.
That of course includes frac sand mining.
There are currently 10 frac sand mines operating in Trempealeau County. County board member Tom Bice said approximately 16 others have received permits.
The moratorium approved Monday night will last up to a year. It kicks in August 30th.
The moratorium was proposed by the Trempealeau County Health Board, which believes extra time is needed to better study the impacts of frac sand mining on the health of Trempealeau County's population.
