SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - There is now a way to safely and conveniently dispose of unwanted or expired medications.
The Sparta Police Department in collaboration with the Monroe County Safe Community Coalition has installed a drop-box in the Sparta Police Department Lobby for unwanted prescription drugs.
You can drop off unused or expired prescription medicine at 121 East Oak Street--no questions asked.
Prescription drug abuse is currently being reported by law enforcement agencies across the country as one of the greatest threats.
Not only can it lead to other drug usage, but it is costly to the environment.
The Sparta Police Department hopes that this instillation will prevent overdoses, keep drugs off the street, and avoid environmental contamination.
They will accept non-narcotics, narcotics, over the counter medicine, herbal medicine, and veterinary medicine. Do not place needles, inhalers, biohazard material or illegal drugs.
