Local unemployment rates down in most of Wis

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Unemployment rates decreased in most Wisconsin counties and cities in July.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that rates dropped or remained the same in 29 of Wisconsin's 32 largest cities.

Racine has the highest unemployment rate at 12.3%. Beloit is second at 11.2% followed by Milwaukee at 10.6%.

Unemployment went down or remained unchanged in 68 of 72 counties between June and July. Menominee County had the highest at 16.7% followed by Iron County at 11.2%.

The statewide unemployment rate was 6.8% in July, less than the national rate of 7.4%.
