LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Five-hundred kids will have a new backpack, school supplies and school clothes thanks to generous donations from the La Crosse Community.
Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army partnered up for the first time to help families in need of assistance to help prepare their child for the school year.
Through the program, community members adopted a child and went shopping for school items for them.
The partnership made it a lot easier for families to pick up everything in just one stop.
Program Coordinator for the Salvation Army, Vicky Martin, says "It makes it so much easier for the people that we serve to just do the one stop thing. A lot of times there are transportation barriers and things involved so it really helps them to be able to do it at one place."
Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army plan to do it again next year.
