HOLMEN, Wisconsin (WXOW) - One person is dead following a two vehicle crash near Holmen Friday afternoon.
According to the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department, the driver of a southbound SUV lost control of her vehicle by County Highway HD north of Highway 53. The SUV went across a grassy median and hit a northbound car head on.
The driver of the car was killed in the collision according to Sgt. Brian Wierzbicki of the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department. That person's identity has not yet been released by authorities.
The SUV's driver went to Gundersen Health System with non-life threatening injuries.
Based on their initial investigation, alcohol was not a factor in the crash, though the statement from the Sheriff's Department says additional blood tests and further investigation are ongoing.
Members of the Wisconsin State Patrol are reconstructing the crash.
The incident, which happened at 4:25 p.m. closed Highway HD for three hours while the scene was cleared.
