DECORAH, Iowa (KWWL) - A 16-year-old Decorah girl died after she fell from an overlook Friday evening. Decorah Police say Kellie Sharp died when she fell from a scenic overlook at Palisades Park just after 8 p.m. Police say the teen's body was found at the bottom of the hill below the overlook.
An investigation is underway to find out what caused the girl to fall. An autopsy is being performed by the Iowa Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.
"I woke up this morning feeling, 'Oh it's just a dream. It's ok, but it wasn't ok," said Maddison Deemer.
Deemer woke up Saturday morning to what she says was a nightmare.
"I felt numb. It was so weird because I just saw her Thursday at work and I saw her Friday afternoon."
The very popular lookout point in Decorah is now sprinkled with flowers in remembrance of Sharp. Now, friends visit the spot to remember the girl with a lot of energy.
"I remember how much she always just kept a smile on my face," said Trista Erickson.
"She walked in the room with a huge smile," said Deemer.
"I'm obviously going to miss her smile a lot. I'm going to miss her talking to everybody just saying hey in the hallways even," said Jordyn White.
