ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) – The temperature Monday topped the record high for Aug. 26.
Temperatures reached 97 degrees, and with a heat index over 100 degrees, the Onalaska Aquatic Center opened for an extra couple of days.
The pool will be open Monday and Tuesday nights from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Also changing their schedule to beat the heat is the UW-L Screaming Eagles Marching Band.
This week is "Band Camp."
The band is marching outside for most of the day, so they're taking mandatory half-hour water breaks, sunscreen breaks, and practicing music indoors.
"Well we always take breaks, but now we're trying to just be a little more diligent that we absolutely stop after 30 minutes and give them five or 10 minutes to drink water and Gatorade and what not," said Dr. Tammy Fisher, band director.
