LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW) - The extreme heat has forced La Crosse Central High School to make changes to their sports practice and game schedules.
The Red Raiders football team who usually practice during the day, will practice at night under the lights in hopes that the weather will be cooler.
The soccer and tennis teams cut their practices short and the soccer team is modifying their games.
J-V soccer will only play 30 minute halves versus the normal 40 minutes and take breaks every 15 minutes to hydrate.
Central Athletic Director Joe Beran says they want to get practices in but keeping the kids safe is a priority. "We want to do everything we can to get a practice in but we don't want to do that at the expense of safety and with that said if we are going to get the game in we are going to make modifications to make sure its is safe."
The Red Raiders football team kicks off their season Friday at Eau Claire.
