LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)-- A court appearance Thursday for the co-owner of Mississippi River Rentals.
A judge issued a warrant for Kristina Short's arrest when she did not appear in court last Friday for her initial appearance.
39-year-old Short told a judge Thursday, she would have shown up if she knew she was supposed to be in court.
She said there was a miscommunication with the public defenders office and confusion with paperwork after moving twice recently.
A judge reinstated her signature bond.
She is due back in court on September 5.
According to the criminal complaint, nine people have not been refunded the deposit they paid to reserve a house boat from the company.
Their contract said the deposit was supposed to be mailed back seven to ten days after completing their trips.
Deposits ranged from $750- $1,150.
The total loss for the victims is $7,350.
The police department has received 52 complaints about Mississippi River Rentals.
