LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Teachers and staff throughout the La Crosse School District gathered at Central High School Thursday morning to celebrate the opening day of the new school year.
This years opening day celebration was entitled "Believe" and the ceremony included a performance by district staff, a welcoming from the superintendent and the Board of Education president, as well as recognition to staff who have served in the district for 25 years.
"Knowing that we have about 7,000 students coming into our schools on Tuesday; getting our plans set up so that we're ready for them, getting things organized but more than anything else, helping everyone just remember that we're all here, we're all working for the benefit of children and our families and this is the time to celebrate what we do and celebrate it everyday if we can," says La Crosse School District superintendent, Randy Nelson.
The ceremony concluded with a performance from the Central High School marching band and Randy Nelson says the La Crosse School District is welcoming over 80 new staff members this year.
