Pro-Walker rally in capitol rotunda

MADISON (WKOW) -- The normal, weekday noon-time protest at the state capitol to Governor Walker's policies gave way Thursday to a pro-Walker rally, as participants obtained a required rally permit.

A group of about ten women from the Republican Party of Jefferson County and others sang patriotic songs and praised Walker.

Organizer Deb Stein tells 27 News the rally was meant to "take the Capitol back" from the regular, protest sing-a-long. Stein says the Solidarity Sing-a-long disrupts workers in the capitol, and Stein urges those opposed to Walker to express their views at the ballot box.

Stein says obtaining permits for four other capitol rallies is planned.

Participants in the regular, Solidarity sing-a-long staged their event outside the capitol, as has been their practice when permits are granted for other rallies. Participants refuse to obtain permits, arguing no permit is required for their exercise of free speech. A federal judge ruled permits could be required for capitol events of twenty or more people, and nearly two hundred people have been arrested since the ruling.
