Music festival stage powered by bicyclists

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – This weekend's Downtown Sound Music Festival is collaborating with the La Crosse Area Labor Day Weekend Bicycle Festival.

Bands are playing on an outdoor stage on Pearl Street. All of the lights and sound are powered by bicycles peddled by concert-goers.

Volunteers say it's a fun way to see how much energy just a few people can generate.

"The people power that they're providing all feeds into a generator and the energy in that generator is what powers the sound and the lights for the stage," said volunteer Brian Stehula.

The Pearl Street Stage will host another concert series tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Bands will also be playing at Bodega, the Root Note and the Popcorn Tavern Saturday and Sunday night.
