LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Pettibone Campground is much drier than it was a couple of months ago.
In June, heavy rainfall flooded the Mississippi River, putting about 15 RV sites under water for the 4th of July holiday.
Some sites to as long as last weekend to dry out, according to campground manager Zeb Allert.
But all RV and tents are now open, just in time for Labor Day weekend.
"You're thinking about the people's plans you ruined. That's the big thing. People who come here, they usually come here all the holidays every single year, and so when they have to give up their site, that's the worst part," Allert said.
While the campground took a financial hit the first couple of months, Allert said business is doing much better now.
Most of Pettibone's campsites for Oktoberfest weekend are already booked.
