La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) All the preseason talk and conjecture finally gives way to a game this Saturday for UW-La Crosse.
Head coach Joel Dettwiler enters his third year as head coach.
Improvement has come but in baby steps.
The Eagles have gone from 3 wins his first year to 4 last season.
Certainly, there's a transition period every time there's a coaching change.
But the Eagles feel that this is the season they make that big leap.
"When we started out everybody was kind of amped up, over excited and wasn't mentally there for the first two years. We were still trying to figure out everybody's roles. Year three has come around and everybody has figured out where they fit in on the team. Now it's time to roll and see what this season brings," said running back Jared Stan.
"We have a lot of guys who have bought into the program in year three versus year one when he got here. It takes a few years to get acclimated and we're right on schedule. It's going to be a really good year this year," said defensive lineman Nick Berg.
The Eagles host Dubuque this Saturday at Harring Stadium.
Kickoff set for 6pm.
