LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – A judge sentenced a La Crosse father for neglecting his three-year-old daughter resulting in bodily harm, Friday.
Among her injuries, the girl needed medical treatment for fractures to her hands and feet.
But Dustin Barnes, 23, is headed to prison for unrelated convictions.
According to Assistant District Attorney Emily Hynek, a judge sentenced Barnes to four years in prison and four years extended supervision, for failing to meet the terms of probation for previous convictions. Those include theft, criminal trespassing and domestic battery.
Friday a judge added a three-year prison term with three years extended supervision for the neglect conviction. He received the same sentence for a fraud against a financial institution charge, Hynek said.
Barnes will only serve that sentence if he fails on probation again, after spending four years in prison.
Barnes' attorney blamed his client's drug use for his actions.
Barnes apologized to the court for being "selfish and inconsiderate."
His girlfriend, Josie Dikeman, is facing similar charges in this case. She is due in court Monday.
