TOWN OF KICKAPOO, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Vernon County Sheriff's Department says a single vehicle accident has resulted in death. It happened Saturday (09/07) afternoon at approximately 3:30 PM in the Town of Kickapoo, just east of Readstown.
Seventy year old Sharon Grim of rural Viola, Wisconsin was driving a mid-sized sport-utility vehicle northwest on U.S. Highway 14 down Sugar Grove Hill. Grim gradually traveled off the right side of the highway on a curve to the left, just southeast of Moore Road. The sheriff's office says the vehicle then traveled several hundred feet in a ditch line. The vehicle then hit an embankment, became airborne, overturned, and Grim was ejected from the vehicle. When the vehicle came to rest upright, Grim was pinned between the lower portion of the vehicle and the embankment. It does not appear that Grim was wearing a seatbelt.
The Viola and Readstown Fire Department extricated Grim from the wreckage and she was flown by Med Link Air to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse where she later died of her injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff's Office and the Vernon County Coroner's Office. This crash marks the third traffic fatality of the year in Vernon County.
