Trempealeau County (WQOW) - An Osseo woman, charged in the death of a toddler, enters an insanity plea.
Amanda Butts was babysitting Alexis Behlke in June when the toddler stopped breathing. The autopsy showed she died from the combined effects of oxycodone, a painkiller, an antihistamine, like Benadryl, and an anti-depressant.
Police said Butts told them the child had been up all day, was "whiney" and would not sleep. Investigators say Butts admitted giving the child oxycodone. They say she agreed with them, that giving oxycodone to Alexis was wrong and could cause her death.
Butts was dating the child's father. He said Butts was watching his children when he was at work. She was charged with reckless homicide and on Tuesday, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. An examination has now been ordered by the court.
