LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Crews are fighting two separate fires this morning (09/11).
The La Crosse and Onalaska Fire Departments are fighting a fire at a duplex at 607 Wall Street in La Crosse. Although the flames are out, smoke is still billowing from the top of the building. Everyone is accounted for that lived in the building. No injuries were reported. A La Crosse Fire Department spokesperson tells News 19 that the fire was a challenge due to the fire at the Trane Company at the same time. Streets around the scene remain closed as of 10 a.m. According the Police Department, Northbound traffic on Rose Street at St. James Street has been closed. Wall Street is also closed. The Salvation Army and Red Cross are both on the scene assisting those in need.
Meanwhile, the La Crosse Fire Department battled a structure fire at Trane Company, 2113 South 20th Street. The fire is now out and firefighters are now doing a final check of the scene according to our crew. The fire began inside a lab inside the building. Smoke was seen billowing from the building. About two dozen firefighters were at the scene. No one was injured. Crews needed to cut a hole in the roof of the building to get to the fire. Our reporter on scene says approximately 30 employees have been evacuated from the building. There's no word yet on a cause nor how much damage the fire caused to the lab or building.
Due to the two fires at the same time, all fire fighters were called in to assist according to a department spokesperson at the scene of the Trane Company fire.
