LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – About 50 kids participated in a fishing derby Saturday honoring Roch Kendrick.
In 2009, Kendrick was driving to work when a tree fell on his car and killed him.
He was only 46 years old.
Kendrick grew up in the La Crosse area and loved fishing and the outdoors.
So for the past three years, his family, the La Crosse Foundation and the La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department teamed up to host a free memorial fishing derby.
"At first we were thinking of a fishing dock or something to do with fishing, but somehow or other the idea of a derby came out where we could supply children with the opportunity to fish," said Betty Kendrick, Roch's mom.
Kendrick's wife and two kids were also in attendance.
