LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – About 100 kids braved the rain Sunday to race for the Special Olympics.
The Chad Erickson Memorial DuRunRun is a run, bike, run "duathalon" for kids ages two through 12.
But the weather did cause organizers to cancel the biking portion of the race.
Proceeds go to Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes in memory of Erickson, a former Special Olympics bowler who died at the age of 15 from a heart condition.
His dad, Dave, organized the DuRunRun in his honor.
"He couldn't vocalize anymore other than eye blinks for 'yes' and 'no' but you could tell on his face after he got involved with Special Olympics, he was so happy doing sports again," Dave Erickson said.
The DuRunRun is in its 8th year.
