LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – The Julia Belle Swain steamboat was docked in Riverside Park this weekend.
This month, a council committee gave the "OK" to start negotiations on a long-term use agreement between the city and the Julia Belle.
A new non-profit called, The Julia Belle Swain Foundation has raised enough money to purchase the steamboat.
It is still in the process of raising about $1 million to restore her, and her more than 100-year-old engine, to working condition.
The Julia Belle Swain was first launched in 1970, but she hasn't cruised the River for the past five years.
The hope is that the steamboat will be used for river tours a day trips by 2014.
