LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development said anyone who files an initial unemployment insurance claim on or after Oct. 13 will be required to register for work with the Job Center of Wisconsin.
Claimants have to register within two weeks of filing, or their benefits will be delayed.
DWD Deputy Secretary Jonathan Barry said this is not new, but the DWD will now be enforcing the registration requirement.
"If you're claiming unemployment insurance, frankly your job is to get a job and you have an affirmative responsibility to also help yourself. So we will provide tools to help you help yourself," Barry said.
Claimants can register at JobCenterofWisconsin.com.
Alternative registration methods are available for people unable to register online.
An automated reminder will be sent to people who haven't registered.
