Undated, Wisconsin (WXOW) - For the seventh time in a decade, a Wisconsin woman has taken top honors at the World Dairy Expo.
Karyn Schauf isn't one to seek attention. Humble and hard working, she was surprised when she heard she was selected as the World Dairy Expo 2013 Dairy Woman of the Year.
"I feel like I haven't done anything to deserve it. I've done what a lot of farm wives do. Just a typical farm wife, you kind of fill in, you do a little bit of everything, whatever needs to be done, you're kind of the support person."
Karyn and her husband Bob run Indianhead Holsteins in Northern Wisconsin raising a herd of registered Holsteins. A former Alice in Dairyland, Karyn continually advocates for dairy and agriculture.
"Serving on the milk board, and working and advocating in areas of agriculture that I felt were important and farmers advertising their own products, kind of an offshoot from having been Alice. You know I just feel real strongly about promoting what you believe in, and standing up for what you believe in."
With decades of experience behind her, she's an asset not only on her own farm, but to the dairy industry as well.
"I would say that Karen joins a list of recent dairy women of the year honorees, not only from the state of Wisconsin, but across the United States, who are full and equal partners in their dairy operation."
Although she's hesitant to accept recognition, it's clear that it's well deserved for this unwavering advocate for Wisconsin dairy.
"I like to think that I've done my best, but nothing significant, you know, but I do speak up for what I believe and I don't know, I accept it on behalf of all farm wives that are like me."
Karyn will receive her award at World Dairy Expo during the "dinner with the stars" banquet October 2nd.
