WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin native who works at the Washington Navy Yard says she was just steps away from her office when the shooting began.
49-year-old Valynn Kuhns of Brillion says she heard people screaming "Shooter, shooter!" and others saying they heard gunshots.
She thought it was a drill at first, but realized it was real when she saw a woman with blood on her.
Kuhns says the shooting has shaken her up.
"I mean you just really have to be on guard it seems all the time and it's very scary. What I'm going to be doing is doing my best to comfort my co-workers and friends and people that you know, will just need someone to listen and help them kind of think through this. People will be afraid to come into work."
Kuhns says her bosses told her that no one is expected to come in Tuesday.
She says she was about 15 minutes later than normal Monday, because she missed the bus.
