LA CROSSE, Wis. (KTTC/FOX 47) -- A Rochester man is in critical condition Sunday after falling from a bluff in La Crosse Friday afternoon.
Zack Nelson, 23, a graduate of Mayo High School, fell nearly 70 feet from a bluff off of a trail overlooking La Crosse just after 1:30 p.m. Friday.
According to authorities, he was hiking with friends in an unrestricted area when he fell. A CaringBridge website set up by Nelson's family says that he lost his balance and fell down the bluff.
Rescuers found the Nelson after about 10 minutes, but it took nearly 90 minutes to bring him safely down the bluff because of thick brush and trees to a waiting ambulance. He as then taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
A captain with the La Crosse Fire Department says it is amazing Nelson survived the fall.
