GREEN BAY, WI ------- The coaches seem as optimistic as Clay Matthews that his most recent hamstring injury will not be a long-term issue. They will know more when they return from their week off.
The Packers defense forced four turnovers when Matthews was on the field Sunday. He was responsible for two of them.
They forced none and allowed two touchdowns with him on the sidelines.
And that's why caution was the better part of valor.
"Clay has had that issue before, where we lost him for a month last season. And if he said it's tweaked a little bit, you don't want him back in there, because we're going into the bye week and hopefully he recovers and we don't miss a beat," defensive coordinator Dom Capers said.
