LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Oktoberfest Maple Leaf Parade route is closing early Saturday morning according to La Crosse Police.
The streets along the route-from the start at Rose and Clinton Streets, down Copeland Avenue to the Causeway to 2nd Street to the end of the parade at 2nd and King Streets-close at 6:30 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m.
Police stress that vehicles won't be allowed across the route once its closed.
They also remind parade-goers that its against a city ordinance to put chairs, couches, blankets or anything to block off a spot on streets or sidewalks along the route until after midnight on Saturday morning. Police state violations of the ordinance could bring a $114 fine, loss of the property plus cost of removal.
Police are posting the ordinance along the parade route and to parade-goers. A first violation brings about a warning with a second notice resulting in a fine.
LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - UPDATE: This year's Oktoberfest Maple Leaf Parade begins at 10 AM Saturday, September 28th. The two-mile route starts at Clinton Street and Copeland Avenue and ends at Second and King Streets.
One section along the route is the Maple Leaf Parade Family Friend Zone directly across from Three Rivers Plaza. It offers an alcohol-free and smoke free atmosphere.
