La Crosse, WI (WXOW) ------------- Viterbo Freshman Liz Conejo has burst onto the scene, becoming Viterbo's top goal scorer.
Conejo has already tallied 10 goals in her first eight collegiate games, including a hat-trick she scored in the season opener.
"I knew I was going to be a helper to the team but I didn't know it was going to be this significant," said Conejo.
Conejo got her opportunity in the starting line-up when All-American Molly Machometa was diagnosed with spondylitis, which caused the Nations top goal-scorer from 2012 to miss five games.
"I found out that my nerve in my hip was very tight causing my hamstring to pop, I'm just starting to reach my full potential of sprinting again, but I am coming back stronger than ever," said Machometa."
With a healthy Machometa, the emergence of Conejo and the leadership of senior All-American Steph Wisen, The V-Hawks have developed into one of the Nations top offense.
We're real excited returning two all-Americans the leading goal scorer in the nation and with Liz joining in on that, we have 3 forwards I would be just happy if I had one of their caliber and I have three," said Head Coach Scott Pirnstill.
Last year Viterbo reached the National Tournament only to fall in the 1st round but this year with their talented trio this team believes they can make an even deeper run this season.
