Name Released in Monroe County Fatal Crash

Cataract, WISCONSIN (WXOW) – UPDATED - More details on the fatal crash in Monroe County, Tuesday evening.

Monroe County Officials say the man killed in the crash is James Denomie, 24, from Hayward.

The accident happened around midnight on State Highway 27, near Cataract.

Sheriff's officials say John Halbrehder, 68, was driving on the Highway, when he was struck by an oncoming car.  Halbrehder's vehicle rolled over into a ditch.

Authorities say the oncoming car, driven by Denomie,  crossed the centerline striking Halbrehder.  Denomie was pronounced dead at the scene.

Halbrehder and his passenger, Carolyn Diekmann, 73, were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Cataract, WISCONSIN (WXOW) – One person is dead following a crash in Monroe County. 

Sheriff's officials say around midnight, Tuesday, Sept. 24, John Halbrehder, 68, was driving on State Highway 27, near Cataract, when he was struck by an oncoming car.  Halbrehder's vehicle rolled over into a ditch.

The oncoming car authorities believe crossed the centerline striking Halbrehder.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officials say he is a 22-year-old man from Sawyer County.  His name is not being released pending notification of family members.

Halbrehder and his passenger, Carolyn Diekmann, 73, were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
