State revokes PdC child care license following injury

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state has revoked the license of a Prairie du Chien residential care center for children and adolescents after a child was seriously injured there in June.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports Wednesday that the state Department of Children and Families sent a letter Sept. 20 notifying the Wyalusing Academy that its license was being revoked.

The letter says that Wyalusing Academy "failed to ensure the health, safety and welfare of children in its care" when a child was "severely injured" after a June 24 incident at the center, then did not seek outside medical attention for "more than 24 hours" afterward.

The center's executive director Mary Beth Specht says it looks forward to meeting with the state to discuss how the facility can continue to operate.
