La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) - A North Woods International teacher is Wisconsin's History teacher of the year.
Julie Welch is a social studies teacher at the school. Thursday morning, she was recognized by the Gilder Lehrman Institute for History for her outstanding work at the school.
"Julie has an amazing passion for teaching Social Studies and teaching students cultural perspective," shares Principal Sandy Brauer. "She has done a fabulous job of incorporating international themes into her teaching and was a key player in helping to develop North Woods International School into an international school."
As the Wisconsin winner Welch received a prize package including a certificate of recognition, a $1,000 award, a collection of classroom resources and the opportunity to participate in the Gilder Lehrman Institute summer seminar.
The History Teacher award is given to outstanding K-12 educators in American History. You have to be nominated in order to be in the running for the honor.
Welch was nominated by her principal, Sandy Brauer.
