LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- If you're heading to Oktoberfest, you'll once again find the 3rd Street Aid Station ready to meet your needs.
It's located in the Subway restaurant parking lot, on the corner of 3rd and Pearl streets. It's more than just first aid-- anyone needing directions, a cab or just to charge their cell phone can stop at the station.
It started seven years ago as a joint effort between the La Crosse Police Department and Fortney Companies, but now involves many businesses and all the area universities.
"It is about community coming together to try to make this as safe an environment as we can make," said Capt. Robert Lawrence of the La Crosse Police Department.
The 3rd Street Aid Station has extended hours this year: I will be open this Friday from 7 pm until 4 am and Saturday from 6 pm until 4 am. Operation Riverwatch will also be out until 5 am.
