La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) - Five months and one day after a houseboat went through the Dresbach Lock and Dam and partially sank, it was finally refloated and removed on Friday.
The boat is owned by Mississippi River Rental. The owners of the company, Michael Fuchsel and Kristina Short, have been charged with theft in connection with their business.
According to Winona County Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude, the Sheriff's Department had informed the company that if the boat was not removed by Monday, September 30, the County would pay to have it removed and would charge two to five times the actual cost to remove it.
We do not know who removed the boat, but it no longer sits partially sunk along the main channel of the Mississippi south of the dam.
The houseboat lost power and went through a roller gate at the lock on May 26. The accident sent the 11 people aboard into the water. All were safely rescued. There were no criminal charges related to the incident.
