LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW) - For those looking for a quieter atmosphere to enjoy the parade, the Family Fun Zone is available and free.
The area is alcohol and smoke free, this is the third year it's been open.
The "Changing the Culture of Risky Drinking Behavior Coalition" helps make the zone possible.
The past 2 years a grant funded the zone.
This year sponsors provided the kids with shirts and games and a safe place to watch the parade.
Rachael Garbers, Family Zone Committee Chair, says the goal is "trying to decrease some of the stigma, that we're not here to judge and say don't drink or that we're against that aspect of the parade but just offering an alternative."
Rayone Moyer has taken advantage of the zone for the past 2 years and this year brought ten kids.
She says, "you get here early to get a good spot then the kids get bored so they play games with them and stuff, they have the bleachers if they want to be up high to see its just a nice place to enjoy the parade."
The city leases the area to the Family Fun Zone for one dollar.
