LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW) - Runners got up before sunrise Saturday to participate in the Maple Leaf run-walk.
Over 2,000 people registered for either the half marathon, 5 mile run, 5K or kids mile run.
The registration fee goes to the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.
The goal is to raise $30,000 - $40,000.
Travis Pernsteiner, YMCA Community and Special Events Director, says "a lot of people think Oktoberfest is a lot of consumption of beverages and not always the most healthy activities. So this helps people pursue something that's healthy for them and then maybe participate in the other festivities after."
This is the run-walks 14th year.
