LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- A man charged in a hit and run resulting in the death of a 75-year-old man, pleaded guilty Monday morning.
According to the criminal complaint, 31-year-old Damien Mracek was driving a car that crossed the center line of County Road B in Bangor May 22. The car collided with another vehicle driven by Darel Skolos of La Crosse. Skolos died from his injuries two weeks later.
The complaint states Mracek left the scene, but turned himself in a few weeks later. Mracek was emotional throughout today's plea hearing.
"Mr. Mracek it is really important that you understand everything, so if it is upsetting, you can't get through it and you feel like you're not understanding things, it's important you stop me and I'll give you more time," Judge Elliott Levine said during the hearing.
Mracek faces a maximum sentence of 25 years and fines up to $100,000. Sentencing is November 11.
